2008: FOR THE 40th ANNIVERSARY OF HOT WHEELS®, HWC.com CREATED A SPECIAL CAR, THE CUSTOM OTTO, TO BE SOLD EXCLUSIVELY TO ITS MEMBERS.

THE "BLUE OTTO" WAS EAGERLY AWAITED, AND SNAPPED UP WHEN IT FINALLY WENT ON SALE.

ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, PHOTOS OF A MUTANT PINK OTTO SURFACED. BUT HWC.com ITSELF REFUSED TO ADMIT ANY WERE MADE.

THE MYSTERY DEEPENED...

Trust No Otto

FBI Agents Mulder and Scully notice the controversy surrounding the infamous Pink Otto.

Investigating, they track down a retired Mattel employee.

Dana Scully can't see any difference between the Pink Otto and the 40th Anniversary Otto except for the color.

Scully says it's a simple shipping mistake, but Mulder thinks there must have been a comedy of errors to create the Perfect Storm of happenstance that would allow such a mistake to take place; and the tidbits released of a Holiday Barbie story must be an elaborate cover-up of an insidious scheme perpetuated by covert Mattel marketing operatives to gauge public reaction to randomly-inserted "Chase" cars.

Heading to one of Mattel's distribution centers, Mulder is run off the road by Evil Bad Guys, who seize the only evidence he has.

He vows to never give up in his quest to find out the real story behind the Pink Otto. But meanwhile, in a secret location near El Segundo, the Hot Wheels Shop is "burying" the rest of the Pink Ottos...
